Bathers at La Grenouillère

Here Monet depicts a well-known place for bathing and boating along the Seine to the west of Paris. During the summer when Monet created this work, he lived near La Grenouillère with his mistress, Camille, and their son. Loose brushstrokes that are representative of the Impressionists create simplicity of line and add to the joyful tone of the scene.
